The Queens College Dance Team traveled to Orlando, Fl. on January 14th 2011, to compete in the Universal Dance Association's College National Dance Championships. The team was walking into the competition nationally ranked 13th so expectation were high.
On Saturday, the first day of competition the Queens College Dance Team could tell the competition was going to be very close. There were a lot of teams that had raised their technical difficulty, worked original staging, and were beautifully costumed. The competition team at Queens College was a bit smaller compared to some of the other teams so this gave them a bit of a disadvantage. Still the team managed to pull through the first day of competition and was set to do the finals in their pom routine.
On Sunday, the second day of competition, the Queens College dancers were ready to rally. The team was tired, but they realized this is what they had been working for the entire year. The team walked on stage and gave it 110%. At 3:45pm that day the Queens College Dance Team sat on the Disney World's Sport Pavilion's stage waiting for their results. With a full house the Queens College Dance Team came away with what they wanted, a 4th place finish in the Open Pom division.
Head coach Shawn K. Garnier and assistant coach Claudette Torres could not have been more happy with the overall result of the teams performance. This also ignited a flame inside each one of the dancers on the team to already start thinking of nationals 2012.
